Protecting Workers from Workplace Violence

Data collected for the 2019/20 Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) reported an estimated 688,000 instances of violence at work. UK Health and safety law applies to risks from work-related violence, just as it does to other workplace risks. Yet workplace violence can be an everyday reality in some professions, for example, Violent and aggressive incidents are the third biggest cause of injuries reported under RIDDOR from the health and social care sector. Professor Tim Marsh, then at UMIST, was one of the team leaders of the original UK research into behavioural safety (in construction) in the early 1990s.
